In my last post I wrote about valuing your creative worth. I have also talked about not reaching for perfection and other creatively positive ideas, that help us be free to get creative and involved in new journeys.
But until very recently I had only applied this to one area of my life, the one I am most accomplished in and have the most years experience behind me, which is dancing.
I can’t… Can I?
I have never really applied this creative freedom to my singing and music life. I have begun to let myself create dance work, but as for creating my own music… well, I presumed I didn’t know enough. The thought of writing music rarely crossed my mind, and when it did it didn’t stay long enough for me to pay attention. In any case, wouldn’t I need to do more official studying? Learn tons of theory? Well, no, it turns out….
Permission Granted
All I needed was a wonderfully inspiring 2 week music course. I had attended in the hope of gaining more confidence in my singing and have returned with a new mindset towards music and creating it. It gave me the permission I needed to even begin dreaming of writing music.
I have realised that I am able to make my own songs to sing, instead of searching endlessly for songs to cover that resonate with me. The course also reconfirmed my views of creating for creating’s sake. Not to have a specific and goal (fame, money etc.) but just to get creating because its fun to do, lovely to share and helps us all grow.
The Journey Continues…
To continue along my new music path I have bought myself a Ukulele, which is a great instrument if you want to self-teach. I am loving my daily practice, whilst I have a play at finding chords that go with my new song ideas. There will be sharing of said playing soon, but for now you can check out the song I wrote in the last days of the course ‘Grow & Mend‘
